The Institute for Continuing Professional Development

The Institute for Continuing Professional Development was founded in 1960 and evolved over the years to a well known institution with high reputation in the field of postgraduate dental studies. It is exclusively dedicated to the instruction of practising dentists and chairside assistants.
The educational activities of the Institute cover all fields of dentistry. Approximately 100 teachers per year come to Karlsruhe to give courses on all topics that are relevant to the dental practice. Every year more than 3000 Dentists from Germany and the surrounding countries attend courses in Karlsruhe in order to advance their competences. One of the main objectives of the Institute is to develop new forms of postgraduate training that effectively enhance the working routines in the dental office. Many courses of the program therefore rely on modern methods of quality management. The field of pedagogic innovation is also a main topic of the scientific activities of the Institute. Another topic of interest is the reliability of dental rehabilitation in the long run. Therefore the Institute developed a special documentation (subsequent documentation) that is designed to analyse the long term success of prosthodontic constructions.
The Institute has a dental clinic with 12 dentists including specialists for orthodontics and oral surgery. Professionally they engage in dentistry, dental research and they teach colleagues who are interested in improving their knowledge.
